Richard Collins Ham was born in Oakland, California, on August 14, 1911, and died on October 18, 1994.
Ham attended the University of California-Berkeley, where he was initiated into Lambda Chapter. After completing his law degree, he became the deputy district attorney of Alameda County and later opened his own law practice in San Francisco. Ham also served in the army as second lieutenant, infantry, and remained in the Army Reserve until his retirement as colonel in 1963.
Ham was extremely active in his community. He served on the San Francisco City and County Civil Service Commission, was a member of the San Francisco French-American Bilingual School and the Society of California Pioneers, and served as director of the Opera Association.
Ham served Chi Phi Fraternity in several different capacities, including as a representative-at-large, Grand Gamma, and Grand Delta, from 1963 to 1972. He was elected Grand Alpha in 1972 and served until 1975.
