The Hobart Order of Chi Phi, also known as the Secret Order, is established by Amos Brunson and Alexander Beach at Hobart and William Smith Colleges. The charter members of this order, Amos Brunson, Alexander Beach, John Jones, George Hopkins, Edward Lawson, Samuel Tuttle, David Hall, David Jackson, Harvey Loomis, William Shepard, William Sutphen, and Frank Wilson, are known as the "Twelve Apostles." The chapter at Hobart and William is known as Upsilon.
