Dr. Jacob B. Heller attended Lafayette College in Easton, Pennsylvania, and was initiated into Rho Chapter. 

Heller served as Grand Alpha of Chi Phi Fraternity in 1881. This was a time of readjustment to the union of the Northern and Southern Orders in 1874 and definition for the future growth of Chi Phi. Heller’s tenure also saw the retirement of William Sutphen, the last of the Twelve Apostles. 

One of his most notable contributions to Chi Phi Fraternity was his work with the 1878 and 1882 editions of the <i>Chi Phi Register</i>. Alongside Armistead Gordon, Heller edited the <i>Register</i>, which provided biographical and geographic information about Chi Phi members.
